Abstract

Histories tend to be forgotten or blurred over time. Even if society fails to preserve them, literature is a treasure trove of records. Finding them and reclaiming history becomes part of justice for the people of a region. In that way, this review presents the incident of firing on fishermen during the process of renovating the Marina beach in Chennai. It also shows the various stages of development since the start of the refinement project. The situation in which the fishermen lose their livelihood due to the scheme and the struggle raised by the fishermen is analysed in detail. The police's excessive power and various losses, such as the deaths of fishermen, are restored here. As there is no literary contribution to this event in any other literature, the main sources in this article are the literary records of Palamalai and Inkulab (revolution) poems. This study reveals the effects of the fishermen on the plan to rehabilitate the marina beach and the poetry as a socio-historical document.
