Abstract

The people of the Sangam age lived their lives by dividing them into Akam and Puram. These two divisions were unique to the Tamils. The Akam songs of the Ettutthokai (The Eight Anthologies) and Patthuppattu (The Ten Idylls) are dominated by akam songs. The people of the Sangam age loved their lives by dividing them into Akam and Puram. In Akam’s life, they had two kinds of methodology: immoral and chastity. The Tamil society, which fell in love, was transformed into a chaste society through the ritual of marriage. In a chastity society, domesticity is foremost. Akananooru says that righteousness is domestic life. Marriage is fundamental to marital life. The like-minded man and the woman get married to start a marital life. The need for material wealth is evident in the men of those who enter into marriage. The man did not return on time when he went in search of goods. The friend consoles the grieving woman and tries to console her. Having the gift of children means having the best children. They have good children in domestic life. Marriage created unshakable life beliefs in the lives of Tamils. Moreover, through this marriage, children are better talked about. This article deals with the virtues of wealth, hospitality, worship of God, discernment, charity, food, memorial stone worship, and heroism.
