Abstract

Tholkappiyam is the primary book that reveals the life and culture of the ancient Tamils. The Purathinai is the elaboration of the messages of the war life and fame of the ancient Tamils. That is to say, an individual's education, charity, fame, heroism, etc., by name so that others may know it. War has been going on since the creation of the world to the present day. Wild animals fight for their own needs and self-defense. A man who is not civilized fights because of his greed for the earth, his lust for gold, and his greed for women. Tolkappiyar was the first to describe such wars in his grammar book by dividing them into vetchippor, vanchippor, uzhinaippor, and thumpaippor. Among them, this article deals with cattle lifting and retrieval of the same in the vetchippor. This article also aims to see the features of ancient warfare shown by Tolkappiyar through the Purathinai.
