Abstract

One of the most important theories of literary criticism is the theory of themotology. On this theory, comparative scholars such as S.S. Prawer, Harry Levin, and Ulrich Weisstein have proposed the underlying theories that are common to the whole of world literature. On the basis of these principles, an examination of the underlying of Kapilar's Kurinjippaattu in the ten verses shows that the majority agrees with the theory of the underlying of the aforementioned comparative scholars. The natural way of life of the people of Kurinji, the problems faced by the people of Kurinji in the food production system, the role of women in the conservation of millets in the Kurinji land, and the contribution of the friend of the friend of the righteous stand are the underlying themes of Kurinjipattu. Moreover, the good qualities of the man, the festivals of the people of the Kurinji land, the customs, and the man's vow to marry the woman form the thematics of the underlying Kurinjippaattu. In every instance mentioned by Kapilar in the Kurinjippaattu, it can be seen that the underlying theme is embedded. It can be seen that the ideas contain many cultural elements, like images. Similarly, if the other ten verses are examined, we will be able to identify many more underlying ideas.
