Abstract

The ancient Tamil people made their living on the basis of the land. The life of the Tamils of the Sangam age is divided into two parts, Akam (Love) and Puram (Social). Akam refers to the events of love life. The early man began to live in groups to protect himself from destruction. It is this system of collective life that later led to the formation of the ethnic society. It is clear that during the Sangam age, the inhabitants were also based on different types of Thinai of Veduvarkudi, Ayarkudi, Kanavarkudi, Bharathavarkudi, and Umanarkudi. The Puram shows the events of life other than love. An ethnic group is characterized by the culture of the people and the language, culture, and tradition of that race. The purpose of this article is to examine the marriage pattern of the ethnic communities in which the diversity of the population lived.
