Abstract
In India, the human race is treated unequal due to many reasons such as birth, color, wealth, occupation, race and caste. Due to this kind of segregation, man is oppressed by a dominant power from time to time. Hence, there always exist oppressed, marginalized and alienated human beungs. Although literature has recorded the living conditions of these downtrodden people and social struggles they face, modern literature has recorded more about the struggles of marginalized women, women's status, and silenced women characters. In this way, Malarvathi’sKattkutti speaks about Ramani, who has struggled in her life. She becomes a sex worker. Similarly, the novel also focuses on Kutimani, the daughter of Ramani who suffers throughout her life. She faces many struggles in her life as she is born out of wedlock. The society never accepts her as one among them. The society does not call her by her name. But as Kattkutti. Because of this she undergoes many kinds of oppression in her life. The present paper explores the marginalization of women in Malarvathi'sKattukutty novel.
