Abstract
Tamil society is growing as a virtuous society. The developmental stages of virtues have been recorded in Tamil literature from ancient time onwards. Ancient literary texts have emphasized about the unity of human life and moral behaviour. It also emphasized that the king is the most renowned person in a country so all his moral deeds must be followed by others. The reason behind this is, the view that people follow the principles and moral behaviours of the king. This article describes the moral thoughts that are stated in the Ettuthogai and about the social virtues that the king should follow.
