Abstract
There are seven villages under the Manamadurai and Thiruppuvanam Unions in the Sivaganga district. They are Periakottai, Thekkur, Semakottai, Kanoor, Kalloorani, Anniyendhal, and Sirugudi, respectively. In all seven villages, the village deity is the female deity, and the deity of the border who protects the town is Ayyanar Swami and blesses the devotees. The worship of the village deity is a festival held annually in all seven villages. Since the worship of the Horse festival for Ayyanar Swamy is a grand festival, the expenses are calculated and are held once every four to five years. Thus, the worship of the Horse Festival in Periyakottai village has been a worship of the village deity and the deities of the border since time immemorial. The Amphora event taken for the village deity is observed as a very promising event. Moreover, in this festival, the art of drama takes precedence over the mythological plays of Sankaradhasar Swami. Bangles, toys, and mixed shops are opened as people gather in large numbers for the celebration. Thus, the contribution of small-scale industries to grow and the benefits of it can be realized through this festival. The festival, which is held jointly by seven villages, promotes religious harmony.
