Abstract

Myths provide life elements necessary for human life along with God as stories. The glory and history of the respective town is recorded through Talapuranas. In the Tiruvirinjai Puranam, Saiva Ellappa Navalar has described about the beauty of Tiruvirinjai village and about the pond, river and temple in the village.He has also explained the merits of Tiruvirinjai Puranam. The text also exemplifies the faith of the people in Thiruvirinjai Puranam. The people of the village believe even though if they kill the cows their sins will be perished if they worship the idols Markakasagayarai and Maragatavalli and if a blind man takes a dip in the temple pond he will get back his vision, if an infertile woman baths in the river she will give birth to a baby, one can attain eight types of siddhis if he baths in temple pond and so on. It also lists out of how not to worship God. Thiruvirinjai Puranam clarifies about the flow, union and the state of blissful salvation in the sensual life and conveys all the necessary messages for human life very well.
