Abstract

From birth to death, every important event is celebrated as a token of gratitude to God. It can be seen from the Sangam literature that not only the house festivals but also the land system in which the people live, the festivals were celebrated in the respective localities. Festivals contain the cultural elements, traditions, and human values of the race. The landscape occupies a prominent place in shaping the history and lives of mankind. More than 2000 years ago, the Tamils divided their lives into four on the basis of the landscape, defined the merits of each, and lived accordingly. It is from this kind of landscape that festivals also take shape as per the need. The people of the four lands have celebrated different festivals according to their settings and needs. The lives of the ancient Tamils were full of celebrations. Our forefathers were sages who knew astrology, mathematics, and astronomy. The star that falls on the full moon day, where the moon appears as the full moon, was the name of the month and the temple festival. Most of the festivals take place around the full moon. Looking at the manner in which various festivals were celebrated from ancient times to the present day, one can see that he was blessed to live a life of excellence in knowledge and civilization. It is astonishing to see the antiquity of the period during which there is no evidence of how the Tamils began to celebrate such festivals. About 2500 years ago, when the whole world was living as barbarians, the Tamil people were the only ones who excelled in culture and civilization, making us Tamils proud. It would not be an exaggeration to say that while festivals are a way of thanking God, there will be economic progress in the lives of a wide range of people.
