Abstract

The era of singing and praising the Lords and Kings has changed and Kannagi, protagonist of the great Tamil epic Silapathikaram, was born in an ordinary house, has been elevated to a higher level. We worship Kannaki even today, extolling the glory of this chaste queen as a deity worthy of worship, and citing the fact, that pathini means a superior person. Kannagi is a girl born in a merchant village in Bukhar town in Cholanadu. Ilangovadigal highlights the high status of this woman who was worshiped by the people and the king. Through ancient biographies, it is possible to know how a woman who came to protect her husband was raised to the status of a deity. That is why even today Kannagi brings pride to women as a deity worthy of worship.
