Abstract
Sangam literature was also being published at the time when Tholkappiyam was published along with its speeches. The Tholkappiyam commentators have quoted from various texts, including the Sangam literatures, while explaining the sutras. These quotations had a great impact on the literary editions of the Sangam. It is necessary to examine in detail the textual quotations of great importance. In this way, this article examines the Sangam poems in the Tholkappiyam epigraphical texts at various levels. This study is intended to explain the nature and inconsistencies of quotations in the Tholkappiyam text. Moreover, the study will help us to understand how the problem of contradiction can be solved by using versions of the text, the inconsistencies in the poetry program, and the versions of the songs in which the texts they show are contained.
