Abstract
Though the song 'Virtue is learned and disciplined' is found in Sangam literature, the word 'culture' came into use only in the last century. "There is no such word in the Madras University Lexicon, prepared in 1926-31," says K. Sivathamby would have explained that it was T.K. Chidambaranatha Mudaliar who translated the word 'culture' as appropriate, and Vaiyapuri Pillai says that it is a definitive term. The word 'culture' refers to the customs of the people. It is obvious that art and literature reflect cultural changes. In this way, this essay has been written to explain the definition of 'culture' and how cultural changes are reflected in Tamil modern poetry.
