Abstract

Good nutritious food and healthy sleep are essential for every human being to get through his daily life. Realizing the need to properly eat three meals a day, the ancient Tamil people wrote down the methods of eating in literature. The people of ancient Tamil society excelled in external life like donation, bravery, Army and virtue as well as excelled in domestic life as well. After the Sangam period, there were many confusions among the people like wars, governance confusions, and religious impositions. Many moral literature also appeared to restore morality among the people. These were also given as judicial literature. He says that these are eighteen books and the period when these books appeared is Sanga Maruviyakalam. Asarakova, one of eighteen books, deals with methods of eating. This article will explain the methods of eating as prescribed by Asarakova scriptures.
