Abstract

Silappathikaram has a special place among the literature that recorded the cultural movements of the people. Ilangovadigal records the religious and customs of the four varnas and other tribes including the hunters who were not there. Food news features prominently in them. This essay looks at the commentator's detailed view of Kulam and the food of the people of the tribe available in the forest, hills and plains, the way they were cooked, and the offerings of the gods.
