Abstract
The identity was given by several. That signs became symbols over time. Artefacts, inscriptions are the symbols of ancient history. Many people add caste names as a saffic to their name. Geneology, dynasty, tribe and clean refer to the traditional lineage. The Tamil christians from Palakkad district of Kerala point to Land (Kaani) and Family names as their symbols. The family names are created by relatives like maman machan on special occations. Those who have one with in the same Land (Kaani) cannot get married. The reason is that they are fraternal. There are many types of family names such as person, place, occupation, bird and animal. For example, Vaani Veedu, Rayan Veedu, Kurisu Veedu, Odakkaran Veedu, Malayappan Veedu, Muradan Veedu, Chettiyar Veedu. The Land (Kaani) names like Thalampathi, Sathamangalam telling to be surrounded by relatives during marriage is the main ritual of Tamil Christians.
