Abstract

Tolkappiyam refers to the palai naduvan Tinai as one of the five departments. The Tamils have divided their lands into five lands. They vary based on the nature of the habitat. Creatures that live on one land have migrated to other lands in search of their livelihood. The next stage in the struggle for human food is the barter system caused by the surplus in food production. Another object in exchange for what is produced in one land. Based on this the departmentalization has taken place.
