Abstract
People living in the countryside are the ones who preserve the cultural environment. Folk peoples and deities are indistinguishable. Storytelling has its place in folklore. These stories have been handed down orally for centuries by people living in the countryside and have been deeply ingrained in people's minds. Through various stories, different forms of worshipping the folk deities are clearly understood. The deity worship of the Kaniyan people is prominent in Southern Tamilnadu. The purpose of this article is to explore the elements of worship, the way of life of the people, and the socio-cultural changes through the use of Kaniyan Koothu Stories. This research paper was conducted from the psychological point of view that the worship of God is done to realize and fulfill the human needs based on the life of the folk people.
