Abstract

Tamil is the best language to express devotion. Therefore, every believer should sing to God. They have created various literatures in Tamil to explain religious doctrines and express devotion. In this way, Citrilakiyankal with Christian messages have also appeared in Tamil. Christuva Citrilakiyankal sing the praises of the great Christian. They have appeared featuring Jesus' mother and father as the characters. The histories of the saints are also sung in chitrilakiyankal. Numerous chitrilakiyankal have appeared to quote biblical messages and explain Christian doctrines. The style of repenting of one’s faults, expressing devotion, and giving oneself to live a godly life is abundant in christuva Citrilakiyankal. They also play an important role in explaining that Jesus belongs to the Tamil soil and Tamil cultural traditions. Veeramamuni and Vedanayaka Shastri can be mentioned as pioneers of Christuva Citrilakiyankal. Both of them have made significant contributions to the Tamil language resources. Veeramamuni’s mother tongue is not Tamil. However, with great effort, he became a scholar in Tamil and did various Tamil works. He has created chitrilakiyankal such as Thirukkavalur Kalambakam, Githeriammal Ammanai and Annai Alungal Anthadi.
