Abstract

In Tamil literature there are many ideas which stress the importance of Environment and Environmental awareness of people. “Vinjani” a famous short story writer has written a story titled ‘Munnai itta Thee’. The story is about a Dye industry. This industry would spoil river water and underground water used by the people of villagers. It would pollute the land and water with chemicals. Though some people may get jobs in the industry, the land would become barren. In future, the industry could spoil the environment. So, people of the area start a movement to stop this under the leadership of Sathyamorthy, a retired pollution officer and social activist. This article analyses the environmental pollution which is the central theme of this story and a major problem of this world.
