Abstract

Hospitality was extolled as a domestic virtue of Tamils. Antiquity was a time when there were no restaurants. People traveling from one town to another cannot carry enough food for several days. They ate the food given to them in the towns they were going to. Thus, feeding a new guest was regarded as the highest virtue. The guests were welcomed and treated with gusto. Hospitality was maintained as the duty of the householder. The guest served as a gateway to resolve disputes between husband and wife. They fulfilled their duties to the guest with alacrity. Everyone from the king to the citizens feasted according to their status. Even though they were poor, they were hospitable. They have the habit of not eating alone when there is a guest even if they get nectar. Hospitality and cultural elements coexist with life. Hospitality and cultural elements coexist with life. Hospitality to strangers is paramount. Even today in the villages people can see the characteristic of hospitality and hospitality even to a new guest who is not particularly familiar to them. The literature also points to the existence of a tradition of hospitality. From the king of the country to the common people, it was their duty to provide hospitality. The kings entertained the poets with lavish feasts. Tamils ​​lived with hospitality as the primary duty of their lives. Hospitality became a social culture. The women were hospitable and courteous.
