Abstract
The songs in Purananuru is about the kings who ruled during the Sangam era and about the social life of the people during that period. Purananuru is an incomparable book. Usually the works in Tamil literature highlights the qualities that a human being should and should not have in life. Purananuru hihlights many good values that can be followed in a person’s life. It shows us about the social, political, economical changes, education, art, heroism, gift, customs, culture and belief of the people of Sangam era. The book also proclaims that the people of that time excelled in high qualities such as love, grace, friendship, valor, dignity and self-respect. The songs contain moral virtues that can be practiced by man. The article aims to pick up and mentions the good qualities in Purananuru.
