Abstract
Philosophical thoughts are rich in Palantami literature. Virtue is the beginning of everything. Following good deeds in life helps a man to get more wealth and good health. Everything in life should be based on virtue. Virtue is the foremost when compared with love, wealth and home. The moral values and good deeds that are to be followed by the people are described in the Sangam literary texts. The ancient Tamil people believed that being a moral thinker is necessary. Sangam literary works conveys the idea that pleasure is obtained by doing virtue. Ancient Tamils considered the household as an ideal setting for virtue, by providing good surrounding and hospitality to the guests. All these things are explained well in Maruthathinai hymns.
