Abstract

The singing ability of Sangam period poets and the manner in which the songs are sung make us mesmerize and lead us towards a prosperous life. During the Sangam period poets used to act as secret assistants to the king. These poets who guides the king, when finds faults in the activities of the king they correct the king and lead them in a good path and the kings too seek their advice. The king's honored them by giving them gold and material things. Sangam literary songs indirectly indicates that the poets are so poor and it is not good for a king if he denies to help and offer gifts to poets. This article points out that Sangam literary hymns emphasize messages such as the respect given to poets by the rulers of the country, and the ability of the poet to specifically point out the wrongdoings of a king and they had a great responsibility to point out and guide them properly.
