Abstract
Literature and society are inseparable. A work originates from society. Songs of Kurunthogai captures the image of Sangam society. Individual, family, environment and society are the four basic factors for social development. It is their civilizational development that builds a civilized society. Economic wealth, knowledge, philanthropy and social duties of sangam era are revealed in this song. Virtue, materiality and pleasure were the principles of life of the Sangam people. The inner strength of the husband and wife speaks of the mental strength of the people of the Sangam era. The internal songs featured in Kurunthogai are sung by various poets. The ecology of the Sangam period, the stages of social development of that time, and its development status, which appeared in the thinking of many poets, are known. People of the Sangam era do not live for themselves and is known as a virtuous person who lives for others. People of the Sangam period were worshipers of God. This article explains the social development thoughts in Kurunthogai.
