Abstract

Culture distinguishes man from other species. The smallest unit of culture is called cultural component. Culture can be divided into two types namely material culture and non-material culture. Material culture includes all kinds of things that people make for their needs. Non-material culture includes all elements that do not take material form. Material culture and non-material culture are interrelated rather than separate. Ancient Tamils used to conduct weddings on Urogini Nakshatra day. Fresh sand has been spread in the fields, lights have been lit, flower garlands have been hung and houses have been decorated. Utensils and other items have been given freely. The women have cheered for the leader to play the whole murusa. The bride and groom are greeted with flowers and water lily. Hospitality is one of the best traditions of Tamils Such hospitality can also be found in Agananooru. They wear ornaments like khu, thodi, bow, chilambu and natural ornaments made of leaves, leaves and shoots.
