Abstract

There were various artists during the Sangam Literature period, among them, the performers the paanars, occupy a particular place. The paanars are of various kinds based on the musical instrument they play and according to the context in which they sing. The Books that appeared in each period reflect the life of that period. Till date, there are countless books in the history of human society that highlight the lives of marginalized people. The Aattupadai texts talk about the dominant class and the penniless. It cannot be denied that the lives of artists like Panar, Koudhar, Porunar, Viraliyar who lived during the Sangam period were also in a weak state. We can see that all these are recorded in the books which are directed towards anthropological thought. There is no denying that artists, especially those who lived a poor life, had art and tools. It was the treasury of our forefathers. This article talks about these artists, their art and their tools.
