Abstract
Novel is the youngest form of Tamil language literature. One of the changes brought about by the arrival of Europeans. In the 18th and 19th centuries, novel literature began to develop in Tamil. The invention of the printing press of the Europeans paved the way for prose literature. The development of prose led to the emergence of the novel. In the West, novels focused on contemporary issues. The first novels in Tamil depicted the culture of the Tamils. Autobiographical novels are one of the emerging genres of contemporary novels. Like Tamil, Malayalam also produced its own historical novels during the same period. This essay compares autobiographical novels in both languages.
